The Many Problems With Working From Home

Written by Ryan. Posted in News

Working from a home office or even a coffee shop might be appealing when you first start working for yourself. It keeps your overhead low, allows you to be very flexible with your hours, and hey, no commute! Sounds pretty good, right?

Of course, most people who work from home quickly discover there are several disadvantages as well. An article on HomeOfficeWarrior.com outlines a few, including:

1.    Isolation from consumers and the business world
2.    Home chores can come in between of office work
3.    Motivation is difficult to attain
4.    Business isn’t taken seriously
5.    Difficulty in keeping a set schedule and/or routine
6.    Family members do not respect the home office
7.    Good weather can tempt you to play and not work

Another article from ReadWriteWeb.com offers a few more:

1.    Brainstorming is difficult
2.    You never leave work
3.    Entropy is after you

This last point may sound a little odd, but here’s what the author has to say about it:

“The dynamics of an office work environment stimulate us in ways that are not going to be present when working from home. Each interaction brings in human subtleties and brings an opportunity for creative thought and innovation. When working at home these stimuli will not be there and everyone is going to get bored, sooner or later.”
